While there are a lot of good and positive things about remote working (especially avoiding lengthy commutes and traffic), there are also downsides that we’ve never had to deal with before. At first, working at home was kind of a nice change. Many sales reps who used to travel three out of every four weeks of the month could now spend more time with their families or have more time to themselves. However, as the work-from-home situation continues, many of them are starting to feel even more isolated because they are not used to being at home this much. California home prices to grow more slowly next year, Realtors forecast, but sales may be stronger

Ultra-low mortgage rates and pent-up demand for single-family homes will offset continued economic uncertainty and a supply shortage in 2021, with the net result being a 3.3% increase in California home sales and a modest 1.3% increase in the median price next year versus 2020, according to a California Association of Realtors forecast published Tuesday.

San Antonio-area home sales and prices skyrocket as inventory tightens

Home sales and prices in the San Antonio area soared in September amid pent-up demand, low interest rates and a tight supply of available homes.

Buyers in Bexar and surrounding counties closed on 3,623 homes last month, up about 32 percent from September 2019, the San Antonio Board of Realtors reported Tuesday. Sales year-to-date are up about 8 percent compared with the same period in 2019.

The median price rose about 11 percent to $261,200.

“The significant growth in sales compared to last year shows the housing sector as a possible factor to move the economy forward,” said Kim Bragman, SABOR’s 2020 board chairman. “We are hopeful to see a positive growth of sales for the remainder of the year.”

Home sales rise despite low inventory and pandemic

New-home sales also rose sharply in August to their highest level since September 2006. Sales of newly built homes reached an annual rate of 1.01 million in August 2020, 43.2 percent higher than in August 2019, according to the Census Bureau. New-home sales were also up 4.8 percent compared to July 2020.

Low inventory and high prices

While demand for houses is strong despite the coronavirus pandemic, the shortage of homes for sale means that prices are rising rapidly in many markets. The number of existing homes for sale dropped by 18.6 percent in August 2020 compared to August 2019, according to NAR. Inventory of newly built but unsold homes also dropped dramatically by 40 percent compared to August 2019 to the lowest supply since the data has been tracked beginning in 1963.

For the Washington area, the median listing price was up 9.2 percent for the week ending Sept.

Home improvement and stockpiling boost September UK retail sales

Consumers increased spending on improving their homes and stockpiling goods in September in preparation for a tightening of restrictions, providing a boost for retailers.

Sales in the UK rose 5.6 per cent last month compared with the same period a year ago, according to data from the British Retail Consortium and the consultancy KPMG. That was above the six-month average decline of 1.1 per cent and the best annual growth rate of any month since December 2009, it found.

“September saw a big improvement in retail sales growth,” said Helen Dickinson, chief executive at the BRC, whose survey covers about 60 per cent of the industry.

Home sales in Q3 2020 rise 2.5 times, launches surge 4.5 times: Knight Frank India

Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, home sales volume jumped by 2.5 times to 33,403 units in the third quarter of 2020 compared to 9,632 in the second quarter of 2020. New residential unit launches increased by 4.5 times to 31,106 units in third quarter, compared to 5,584 units in the previous quarter, a Knight Frank India report has said.

Sales saw an uptick in the third quarter of 2020 over the preceding quarter on account of innovative schemes offered by real estate developers. These included financial benefits, discounts and easy payment options to attract buyers during the period of lockdown. Developers were also able to garner buyer interest through active usage of digital platforms during this period to engage with customers.

IKEA gets sales boost from shoppers’ new stay-at-home focus

STOCKHOLM (Reuters) – IKEA sees sales returning to growth this year after the coronavirus crisis boosted shoppers’ interest in spending more on their homes, a trend the world’s biggest furniture retailer believes is here to stay.

IKEA is shifting focus from its traditional large out-of-town stores towards e-commerce and smaller inner-city formats as it adapts to the growth of online retailing and new shopping habits.

Jon Abrahamsson Ring, an IKEA veteran who became CEO of brand owner and franchisor Inter IKEA in March, said that, including test formats stores, some 50 new stores would open in the current year, against around 30 in 2019/20. Most of IKEA’s new stores are in inner-cities.

Retail sales – sales of products and services at the 445 IKEA stores and online – shrank 4% in the year through August, to 39.6 billion euros ($46.7 billion).
