WVU football: Passing game improvements a focal point of bye week | WVU Gameday

As of this week, the good vibes stemming from the West Virginia University football team’s 27-21 double-overtime win over Baylor have faded and it’s back to the task at hand coming off a bye week for the Mountaineers.

That task is a tall one and unique one and it will begin on Saturday at Milan Puskar Stadium as WVU (2-1 overall, 1-1 Big 12 Conference) welcomes in Kansas (0-3, 0-2) for a noon kickoff. The game will air on Fox.

“It’s really unique. We’re the only ones,” WVU coach Neal Brown said of a stretch of five games in five weeks that now lies squarely in front of his team, a span that no other team in the Big 12 will face this season.

While there were obviously positive takeaways from the Mountaineers’ conquest of Baylor, there were plenty of evident deficiencies as well, particularly on offense and, more specifically,

UCF football kickoff time set for home game vs. Tulane

The UCF football team’s second home game of the season against Tulane on Oct. 24 will kick off at 2 p.m. and air on ESPN2.

It’s the 10th meeting in the series between the two programs, with the Knights holding a 7-2 advantage that includes last season’s 34-31 road win.

There will be limited attendance at all UCF home games this season due to COVID-19 restrictions. The Knights will welcome 25% capacity at the Bounce House, limiting the crowds to a little more than 11,000.

The announced crowd for the home opener against Tulsa on Oct. 3 was 8,874.

UCF looks to start a new winning streak at home after the Golden Hurricane snapped the program’s 21-game streak with a 34-26 win. The Knights are 4-0 against Tulane in the Bounce House.

Chicago Fire FC vs. DC United – Football Match Report – October 11, 2020

C.J. Sapong scored in the third minute and Boris Sekulic added a goal just before the break as the Chicago Fire won their third straight home contest, 2-1 over lowly D.C. United on Sunday night.

Alvaro Medran recorded two assists and Bobby Shuttleworth made six saves for the Fire (5-8-4, 19 points), who got back on track after posting one point over their previous two contests — both on the road.

United (2-10-5, 11 points), playing their first match since the sacking of longtime coach Ben Olsen, lost their fifth straight and have the fewest points in MLS. They are 0-6-2 since a 1-0 win over New York Red Bulls on Sept. 2. Nonetheless, the United played with spirit and some offensive punch in outshooting the Fire 14-7.

Down 2-0, D.C. was given life when it applied enough pressure to benefit from a Chicago own goal off the foot of

Sweden, who have lost all three opening fixtures, have no points.

Croatia coach Zlatko Dalic was pleased with his team’s start to the match, played in driving rain at Maksimir stadium.

“We played really well in the opening 60 minutes but we couldn’t keep up with our own pace and we struggled in the last half an hour,” Dalic told a news conference.

“But I am pleased we found a way to win and we’re now looking forward

College football odds, lines, schedule for Week 7: Alabama opens as favorite over Georgia at home

It is never too early to take a look at the lines for next week’s action, and the William Hill Sportsbook has released them for Week 7 action already. That includes the huge SEC showdown between SEC teams as No. 2 Alabama hosts No. 3 Georgia in Tuscaloosa next Saturday night on CBS.

While that’s going to be a great game between the only remaining undefeated teams in the SEC, it’s also the only game between ranked teams in Week 7. Though, I suppose if we’re only going to get one matchup between ranked teams, we might as well make it a couple of top-three sides.

There are some other games worth keeping an eye on, though. Particularly as some teams look to bounce back from a rough weekend, while other upstarts look to prove their worth. Let’s take a look at some of the bigger games for the weekend.

Memphis expanding capacity for football games

The Latest on the effects of the coronavirus outbreak on sports around the world:

The Memphis Tigers will be allowed to more than double their home crowd to nearly 12,000 fans in the stands at Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium starting with their Oct. 17 game against UCF.

The university announced the move Tuesday after the Shelby County Health Department loosened restrictions requiring 12 feet between fans to 6 feet.

Athletic director Laird Veatch says he can’t wait to have more fans on hand for an important game, an increase possible because fans followed safety protocols during the Tigers’ last home game.

Memphis fell out of the AP Top 25 after a loss at SMU last weekend in the Tigers’ first game since their opener Sept. 5. The Tigers had to postpone a game with Houston until December and cancel a game with UT-San Antonio due to positive coronavirus tests and

No. 17 LSU Football Shows Major Improvements on Both Sides of the Ball in Week Two Win

The Tigers found their groove on defense and offense against the Commodores. The game proved that both sides of the football are steadily improving.

After a disappointing opening game, No. 17 LSU (1-1) really played well against Vanderbilt. Better effort, more energy, and definitely a higher level of focus showed for both the offense and defense. The Tigers were led by one of their best players.

Derek Stingley, Secondary, Lead the Way

Anytime you hold an opponent’s quarterback to 11 for 25 passing and 113 yards, the secondary did its job. More importantly, it’s how and when the LSU secondary did it’s job.

With Stingley not giving up a single reception, it allowed the other Tigers to concentrate on just their job. Vanderbilt did challenge Stingley, as the preseason All-American broke up a pass in the end zone and was stuck to his man like glue for most of the

Tulsa upsets No. 11 UCF, ending Knights’ 21-game home win streak, College Football Playoff hopes

Time is a flat circle that begins and ends with Tulsa beating UCF. The Golden Hurricanes upset the No. 11 Knights 31-26 on Saturday, ending UCF’s 21-game home winning streak, the second-longest active streak in the FBS entering the game.

UCF’s last loss at home came in 2016. It was a 35-20 loss to Tulsa. The Knights finished 6-7 during that season, Scott Frost’s first year in Orlando. The next season, UCF went 13-0 and decided to claim a national title.

Tulsa, which beat UCF 34-31 in Oklahoma last season, has now won four in a row against its AAC rivals.

It was quite a turnaround from Tulsa’s season opener. Last we saw the Hurricane, they were losing to Oklahoma State 16-7 in a snoozer. They found a bit more success on offense Saturday night, putting up 438 yards against UCF while averaging 6.0 yards per play. Quarterback

LSU Football Quarterback Myles Brennan “Motivated” to Show Improvements After Week One Loss

The critiques on Myles Brennan and his first performance as a starter for LSU were varied. While the Tigers’ quarterback looked uncomfortable at times in the pocket and missed a few receivers down field, coach Ed Orgeron saw many positives in the performance as well.

Brennan threw for 345 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions in the loss to the Bulldogs. On the surface those numbers aren’t bad but what the program and it’s fans have come to expect from the quarterback position has changed drastically in the last year.

When meeting with SEC media reporters on Wednesday, Orgeron said that Brennan flashed his immense potential against the Bulldogs and now it’s about getting that consistency on the right track.

“Myles made some big plays, he made some big throws down the field, scored 27 on offense,” Orgeron said. “But there are some things he can get better at. We’re
